CFSC and CRFSC Courses
Quality firearms safety training is provided by certified Firearms Instructors and Examiners who are designated by the Chief Firearms Office (CFO). The CFSC and CRFSC courses are designed to familiarize you with the safe, effective and responsible handling of firearms and ammunition. As preparation for the legally required tests, the courses will cover the various types of firearms and ammunition, the laws concerning firearms ownership, storage, and transportation, as well as basic firearm operation and safe handling. Study Manuals are optional.

Successful completion of the associated exams is compulsory for the application of a Possession and Acquisition License. The entire course and test are required for youth wishing to apply for a Minors License and for those persons seeking employment in the security field.

Canadian Firearms Safety Course (CFSC)
Non-restricted firearms (Rifle & Shotgun) – 10 hour course
Canadian Restricted Firearms Safety Course (CRFSC)
Restricted Firearms (Handguns) –  6 hour course
Students must have completed the 10 hour CFSC within the past 12 months to be eligible to take this 6 hour Restricted course
Combined Non Restricted and Restricted Course (CFSC and CRFSC)

(Non Restricted and Restricted on same weekend)

This combo course offers the opportunity to complete both courses and associated exams in one weekend. Participants must be able to attend both Saturday and Sunday.

Advance registration and payment is required. Register early as these courses sell out well in advance. Cancellation or transfers are subject to $20 admin. fee and can only be considered if requested in writing a minimum of 7 days prior to the course date.

COURSE OUTLINE:

  • CANADIAN FIREARMS SAFETY COURSE

This course will allow students the opportunity to extensively handle and load the five major non-restricted action types: the bolt action, the pump action, the lever action, the break action and the semi-automatic action. Students will learn firearms history, social and ethical responsibilities, ammunition considerations and storage, transportation and display laws.

Topics covered in the CFSC include:

  • the evolution of firearms, major parts, types and actions;
  • basic firearms safety practices;
  • ammunition;
  • operating firearm actions;
  • safe handling and carry procedures;
  • firing techniques and procedures;
  • care of non-restricted firearms;
  • responsibilities of the firearms owner/user; and
  • safe storage, display, transportation and handling of non-restricted firearms.

 

  • CANADIAN RESTRICTED FIREARMS SAFETY COURSE

This course will allow students the opportunity to extensively handle and load the three major restricted action types: the single and double action revolvers and the semi-automatic action. Students will learn firearms history, social and ethical responsibilities, ammunition considerations and storage, transportation and display laws.

Topics covered in the CRFSC include:

  • the evolution of firearms, major parts, types and actions;
  • basic firearms safety practices;
  • ammunition;
  • operating handgun actions;
  • firing techniques and procedures for handguns;
  • care of restricted firearms;
  • responsibilities of the firearms owner/user; and
  • safe storage, display, transportation and handling of restricted firearms.
